Biography
BIOGRAPHY / GERARD LÓPEZ
After graduating from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra with a Translation and Interpreting degree, I wanted to try something new: living in Tokyo, Japan. I embarked to the birthplace of videogames and manga ready to immerse myself into the language. I started working at a ramen restaurant and going to fighting game tournaments and arcade meet-ups on my free time.
My workplace in Japan 2018-2019: Aji no Tokeidai Ueno restaurant, Tokyo.
During my stay, I increased my prophiciency level significantly. Once I returned to Spain, I decided to go back to the country I love, this time as a student (and in Osaka), to really perfect my level. After eight months of arduous study, I managed to pass the JLPT N1 exam, the highest prophiciency level. This greatly motivated me to kickstart my freelance translator journey and act as a bridge between Japanese and Spanish-speaking communities and subcultures.
The japanese language academy I attended in 2022-2023: Daiwa Academy in Sakai, Osaka.
